There is something liberating about using an operation system that not only is free, but completely open source. You have the option to take this operation system and modify it in any way you want, for free, as long as you too publish the source code to any changes you made to the Linux kernel. This is one of the most powerful assets for Linux, and is the driving force behind adoption. With the plans for the down-town and east-side Ottawa light rail corridor complete, and beginning construction, the eyes of the city have turned to the west end for the next phase of the Ottawa light rail plan. In this piece I plan to outline the current state of rapid transit in Ottawa, the proposed Light Rail Transit (LRT) route (specifically the western section), and then identify and support a superior alternative route along Carling Ave. The past few weeks have been quite tumultuous both in terms of happenings on my website and school. These problems all stem from my use of 000webhost as the hosting service for my website. Though 000webhost seemed like the best choice in terms of free web hosting (which I know now really isn’t worth ones time), it has a fatal flaw. They have a requirement that all sites that are hosted with them receive a certain level of traffic for them to keep the site active. In a house with 4 highly tech savvy (no pun intended) students, one tends to use a lot of bandwidth. A LOT.
Having had good experience with Teksavvy at home (and the fact the they have unlimited plans) meant the logical choice was to go with the Teksavvy Cable 28 plan, which offers 28Mb/s download and 1Mb/s upload. This plan costs $61.95/month, which comes to exactly $70 a month with tax included. With my dad looking at taking a series of Porter flights in the next few weeks and months the topic of the cheapest way to get around by air came up. With Porter Airlines being the cheapest, and arguably fastest way of getting to downtown Toronto the consideration wasn’t whether to take Porter so much as whether their points program, VIPorter, was worth taking into consideration.
VIPorter is a a very simple rewards program in that you gain points by flying, and you redeem rewards when you have 7500 for a free flight.
